I buy tickets, isn't that enough?
In a word, no.
If we lived in Europe, just buying a ticket might be enough, because arts groups there, customarily, have been heavily funded by the government. That’s not the case here, and it’s even changing in Europe.
The costs of a professional symphony orchestra are fixed costs. The number of musicians for each piece was determined by the composer, and there are myriad permutations of instruments that are immutable. The actual sheet music that orchestras play must either be purchased or rented. There are venue fees, soloist fees, musician travel and housing, marketing costs, and the list goes on.
If tickets were our only source of income, the ticket price per concert would be nearly $200! As a result, all arts organizations in America rely on corporate funding, grants from state and federal agencies, foundations and private funding from individuals, in addition to ticket income. This is a fact that will likely never change, and each organization must forever struggle to fund their worthy endeavors.
Our aim this season, is to provide you with a fun and varied opportunity each month, at a nominal cost to you, that yields much needed income for us. Rather than just asking you for money, we’ve gone to great lengths to organize and schedule these events for you to enjoy.
Now that you understand why buying tickets is not enough to support a first rate professional orchestra in our community, please do everything you can to keep the LPO funded and presenting live orchestral music in Lawton/Ft.Sill, and Southwest Oklahoma. You know we make a difference.
Please participate in as many of our monthly events this season as possible, along with our wonderful orchestral concerts.
